HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

 

Juneau, AK / Full-time / Perm / Pay $20.00 to $24.00 P/Hr. DOE

This position is responsible for the day-to-day establishment, maintenance and HIPAA compliant destruction of all client records.  Acts as the organization’s main hub of sending and receiving all client documentation and/or health records.
Representative Tasks/Responsibilities
 
  • Establishes and maintains client records.
  • Acts as the central source for sending and receiving all health care documentation.
  • Ensures that records are in a safe and secure environment, confidentiality is maintained, and that unauthorized access and release is not allowed.
  • Ensures records are available for authorized persons in a timely manner.
  • Ensures client records are in compliance with agency policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Reviews records and charts to ensure proper assembly, internal consistency, state of completeness, and existence of proper signatures.
  • Trains staff in required policies and procedures of client records.
  • Trains new staff on HIPAA privacy regulations.
  • Regularly attends program staff meetings; notifies supervisor and reviews meeting minutes when absent.
  • Actively supports and contributes to the accomplishment of Performance and Quality Improvement goals and objectives within the agency.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Expertise

 
  • Thorough knowledge of client records terminology and procedures for maintaining client records.
  • Thorough knowledge of HIPAA and 42-CFR Part 2 regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of agency policies and procedures and state and federal laws, rules and regulations concerning confidentiality, information release and access of records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with a wide renge of staff, clients, and families.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to contribute positively as a team member.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with an electronic medical record.
  • Ability to utilize basic office machines: printer, computer, fax machine, phone.
Requirements
 
  • High school diploma or the equivalent.  Associates degree preferred.
  • Two years of administrative and clerical experience, RHIT Certification preferred.
  • Current Alaska drivers license and auto insurance per agency standards.
  • Clearance of state and federal background checks.
  • Completion of required training according to established timelines per job class and department.

Compensation

  • The starting salary for this position ranges from $20.00 to $24.00 per hour depending on experience
